INSTALLING THE CLIENT

This document is about installing or upgrading to version 1.1.14 or later. If you are installing an older version (not recommended), the installation instructions are here.

If you are unable to begin installation after starting the Windows Installer file (.msi file) then it is likely that you need to update the Windows Installer before continuing. Proceed to the prerequisite section to download and install the necessary files from Microsoft.

The client needs to be installed on each and every computer that you wish to access the database. To install or upgrade the latest version of PHMS, all you need to do is,

  1. Login as Administrator
  2. Download the latest version of PHMS
  3. Double click on the installer* and follow the prompts. It is recommended to install PHMS in the default location.

If you do not specify the IP address of the computer hosting the database server, local computer address (localhost) will be assumed. To change the IP address after installation you may use the tool in Programs→PH Management System to set the IP address.

On application's first execution after an upgrade, you may receive a warning that the database structure will need to be upgraded as well. The application does this automatically, but it is advisable to backup your database before allowing PHMS to do such modifications.

If this is your initial installation of PHMS, please go on to the configuration section of this documentation and read it carefully. The "out of the box" installation is generally not ready to accept data until after it has been configured for your site.
